During his visit to the 30th International Boxing Tournament «Adriatic Pearl», AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev held an official meeting with presidents of National Federations of Balkan countries.
The aim of the meeting is to ensure a tight connection between the National Federations of Balkan countries and AIBA, to discuss directly global reforms initiated by International Boxing Association. The association has already managed to create new Committees, renewed membership policy for National Federations, and adopted a Communication strategy based on the principles of full transparency.
Mr. Kremlev claimed that unity should be the keynote of boxing development worldwide, including in the Balkans.
‘To sustain interaction between AIBA and every boxing federation around the globe is one of the significant point of our course. Because of that, I am very pleased to be here today and to have the opportunity to discuss substantial issues with each presented NF’s President of Balkan countries. This region plays a significant role and we are going to cooperate in a more intensive way to achieve our main goals,’ AIBA President Mr. Kremlev claimed.
‘We should forget about old issues and become one strong family in Balkans. I see a lot of prospects in the region. We are in a tough situation with the pandemic but the example of Montenegro shows is that it is still possible to conduct tournaments with all safety measures. We have to learn to work in any circumstances; as sports managers, our goal is to provide the best possible conditions for our athletes and coaches,’ he added.
Participants discussed a development plan for boxing in the Balkan region and its implementation.
The Minister of Sports and Youth Mr. Vasily Laloshevich and NOC President Mr. Dušan Sinomović took part in the meeting and expressed support for boxing development initiatives. ‘I fully support all initiatives to unite boxing federations of the region,‘ noted Mr. Laloshevich.
President of the Boxing Federation of Georgia Mr. David Tsikaluri stated that Mr. Kremlev is ‘a role model’ for each of the participants.
He is always by our side, supporting us and helping us. I cannot remember such support in the times of the previous AIBA leaders,’ he said.
International Boxing Tournament “Adriatic Pearl” is a historical competition playing an important role for athletes, especially now, in the absence of combat practice for a long time due to the situation with the pandemic. In total, 140 athletes from 14 countries are confirmed to participate. The aim of the tournament is to ensure athlete’s preparation for the AIBA World Youth Championships in April 2021 in Kielce, Poland.
