AIBA President held a working meeting with the Minister of Sports of Poland and the head of the National Boxing Federation

AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev arrived in Poland, where he held a working meeting with the country’s Minister of Sports Mrs. Anna Krupka. The meeting was attended by the head of the Polish Boxing Association, Mr. Grzegorz Nowaczek.

The focus of the meeting was the organization of the AIBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships, which will be held in the Polish city of Kielce and is scheduled for April 2021. Kremlev and Krupka spoke about the upcoming event with “cautious optimism.”

‘We are considering the possibility of holding competitions in April with cautious optimism due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic. The health of athletes, coaches, referees & judges and fans is our priority. However, I am confident that Poland will host the World Championships at the highest level,’ Mr. Kremlev said.

Mrs. Krupka praised the reforms that the AIBA President carried out during his six weeks in charge and expressed hope that the association could be back to the Olympic family under the new leader.

She also stressed that boxing is one of the priority sports in Poland, and it have brought the country the second most medals at the Olympic Games. 

Mr. Kremlev thanked the minister for the attention of Polish sports officials to the development of boxing in the country.

“There are a lot of boxing schools in Poland. I am pleased to see that our sport is actively developing, that young people go to the boxing gyms and achieve results at the international arena,’ the AIBA President added.
